What we do with personal data

Last updated: 2026-09-25

This notice explains how we handle personal data in connection with this website and the discussion group. It is written to align with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). It applies to personal data about individuals.

What we collect

Current status. Advertising measurement is not yet switched on for this site. Until it is, no measurement cookies are set and no analytics or advertising tag is loaded — nothing about your visit is recorded. This page will be updated before that changes, and the section below describes what would then apply.

  • Advertising measurement (not yet active). If measurement is switched on, and only if you accept it, we would record that a page was viewed and that a link was clicked, so we can tell whether our advertising reaches people who find the content useful. Declining means no measurement tag is loaded at all. See "Advertising" below.
  • Messages you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.
  • Group participation. If you join the group, the platform involved (for example WhatsApp) processes your account details under its own terms. We do not receive your contacts, your address book or your private messages.

Third-party requests this site makes

Loading this site causes your browser to request resources from third parties. These requests are technically necessary to display the page, and they transmit your IP address and browser characteristics to the provider concerned. They are made whether or not you accept measurement.

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — supplies the typefaces used on this page. Google receives the request and your IP address. No cookie is set by this request and we do not receive any data from it. If you prefer to avoid it, a browser extension or a font-blocking setting will prevent the request; the page remains readable using your system fonts.
  • WhatsApp — only if you click the group link. Until you click, no request is made to WhatsApp from this site.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for and do not want your identity document numbers, bank or brokerage account numbers, account balances, portfolio holdings, income details, or any record of your transactions. If anyone claiming to represent this community asks you for any of these, it is not us — please report it using the contact details below.

Why we use it

  • To operate and improve the website and the content we publish.
  • To understand which topics are useful, in aggregate.
  • To measure whether our advertising reaches the intended audience.
  • To respond to messages, corrections and privacy requests.

We do not sell personal data. We do not rent, trade or share it with financial institutions, product issuers, brokers or lead brokers, and we do not use it to market financial products to you.

We ask for consent only when there is something to consent to. If advertising measurement is not configured, no consent banner is shown, no measurement tag is loaded, and no measurement cookie is set.

When measurement is configured, a banner appears on your first visit with an equally prominent Decline option. Choosing either records your decision in your browser's local storage so we do not ask again; it is not used for any other purpose. Declining prevents the measurement tag from loading at all — there is no reduced or "cookieless" measurement running in the background.

You can change your decision at any time using the "Measurement settings" control in the page footer. Blocking cookies through your browser settings also works, and does not restrict your access to any part of this site.

Advertising

We may advertise to reach people who are looking for general market information. Where measurement is active and you have accepted it, it tells us that an advertisement led to a page view or that a link was clicked. It does not tell us who you are.

We do not send information about your holdings, balances, identity or financial position to any advertising platform. We do not build advertising audiences from financial data, and we do not use advertising personalisation: the consent we request covers storage and measurement only.

The events we send are limited to: a page view, a click on the group link, an expansion of a question in the Q&A list, and — where a conversion action is configured — that a group-link click occurred. No event carries your name, contact details, holdings, balances or any account information.

Who processes data for us

We use a small number of service providers to run this site and its measurement — for example a static hosting provider and web analytics and advertising platforms. They process data on our instructions or, where they act as independent controllers, under their own published terms. Some of these providers operate outside Singapore; where personal data is transferred overseas, we take steps to ensure it receives a comparable standard of protection.

How long we keep it

  • Aggregated analytics: retained in reporting tools for up to 14 months, then deleted or further aggregated.
  • Emails you send us: kept only as long as needed to deal with the matter, and then deleted.
  • Correction and privacy request records: kept for as long as needed to evidence that we handled the request, then deleted.

Your choices under the PDPA

You may ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and how it has been used;
  • correct any personal data that is inaccurate;
  • withdraw consent for future use; or
  • delete personal data we no longer need to keep.

Write to the contact address below. We will respond within a reasonable period. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and there are limited circumstances where we cannot comply — for example where we are required to retain something by law.

Security

We keep collection to the minimum described here, which is itself the main protection: data we never collect cannot be lost. Access to what we do hold is limited to the volunteers who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

Children

This site and the group are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
